Sorrow Surfer book is almost here!

Eeeek! This is really happening.

After seven and a half years of writing in quiet bursts—between solo parenting, work, and school runs—my book, Sorrow Surfer: Riding the Waves of Grief, is officially back from the editors.

To be completely honest, holding this manuscript in my hands feels surreal. It is equal parts exciting and terrifying. Putting something this personal onto paper means laying bare the raw, unfiltered truth of what catastrophic loss actually feels like. But it also feels like a deep exhale, because this is the exact companion I searched for in the darkest days and couldn’t find.

More than a memoir: a grief companion

Grief isn’t a neat, five-step staircase. It doesn’t follow a schedule, and it certainly doesn't wrap up cleanly with a bow.

Grief comes in waves.

Some days the water is calm and you can catch your breath. Other days, a wave catches you completely off guard, knocking your feet right out from under you.

Sorrow Surfer uses the metaphor of the ocean to explore the physical reality of loss—how trauma lives in our bodies, how our nervous systems try to protect us, and how we can learn to ride the waves of grief.

It weaves together raw, honest stories from my own widowed experience, paired with interactive pages and guided prompts. Sorrow Surfer invites you to explore your own grief—privately, and in your own words.

Inside the pages, you’ll find:

  • Real, raw storytelling from acute shock through the years that followed.

  • Under the Surface insights that explain the physical side of grief—the exhaustion, the brain fog, and why your body reacts the way it does.

  • Interactive reflection spaces with gentle prompts to write, scribble, and make sense of your own journey, at your own pace.
