FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Reaching out for grief support or exploring something new can bring up a lot of questions.
Below you’ll find answers to the most common ones - if your question isn’t here, please feel free to send me a message and I’ll personally respond.

What is grief coaching? Grief coaching offers compassionate, forward-focused support for people navigating loss. Unlike counselling, which often explores the past and underlying emotions, coaching gently helps you find direction, build coping tools, and create a meaningful path forward - at your own pace. It’s client-led and all about learning to live with your loss, not “getting over” it.

How is grief coaching different from therapy or counselling? Therapy often focuses on mental health diagnosis and clinical treatment. Grief coaching focuses on personal growth, meaning-making, and reclaiming a sense of self and purpose after loss. Many people choose to do both - counselling for emotional healing, and coaching for guidance and rebuilding life.

Who do you work with? I support adults experiencing bereavement or significant life-altering loss, including widows, parents, adult children, and those grieving sudden or traumatic deaths. I also welcome anyone exploring long-term adjustment, anticipatory grief, or finding meaning after loss. Coaching with me is an inclusive space. I welcome people of all genders, backgrounds, abilities, neurodiversities, and spiritual beliefs.

What happens in a coaching session? Each session is a gentle conversation tailored to your needs. We may explore: - What’s feeling heavy or confusing right now - How grief is showing up in daily life - Tools and practices for grounding, coping, and self-compassion - Ways to honour your person while slowly rediscovering your own light Sessions are guided but flexible - this is your space.

How many sessions will I need? Everyone’s grief journey is unique. Some clients find clarity after a few sessions, while others prefer ongoing support over several months. You can start with a single session or choose a package to save up to 25%. There’s no pressure - find what works best for you.

Do you offer online sessions? Yes. All coaching sessions are held online via secure video call, so you can connect from wherever feels comfortable - your home, garden, or a quiet space. I work with clients across Australia and internationally.

Can I see you in-person? Yes. Coaching in-person is limited to the South East Queensland area and is on specific days only.

What are grief care packages and milestone gifts? Our Grief Tides Care Packages and Milestone Gifts are thoughtfully curated boxes designed to bring comfort and reflection at meaningful moments - such as the first month, six months, or the anniversary of a loved one’s passing. They’re available for personal purchase or as a gift for someone grieving.

Do you offer gift cards? Yes. Digital printable gift cards are available in custom amounts. They can be used toward grief care packages, courses, or coaching sessions - perfect for when you want to offer support but aren’t sure what someone might need most. Grief cards can also be used at the Grief Tides Shop.

What is the “Gift of Hope” program? This program allows you to sponsor or contribute toward a coaching session for someone who cannot currently afford support. It’s one of the ways Grief Tides helps ensure that compassionate care is accessible to everyone.

Do you offer free resources? Yes. You’ll find free guides, printable worksheets, and grief journal prompts in the Free Resources section, plus stories and insights on the Blog. You can also join the mailing list for gentle updates and new offerings.

Is my information private? Absolutely. Your privacy and safety are deeply respected. All sessions are confidential and follow strict privacy standards outlined in our Privacy Policy. Your information will never be shared or sold.
